What to Build First in Roblox (That Actually Teaches You Something)

Skip the empty baseplate paralysis. These first projects each teach one core system; and stack into a real game.

The hardest part of starting is picking a first project big enough to matter and small enough to finish. Each of these takes under an hour with ScriptFreak, and each one teaches a system every real game needs.

The ladder

  • Coin pickups: touch detection, server-side currency, leaderstats. The hello world of Roblox.
  • Autosaving coins: DataStores, retries, BindToClose. Now progress survives servers.
  • A shop that sells a speed boost: MarketplaceService, ProcessReceipt, idempotency. Now you can earn Robux.
  • An obby with checkpoints: Player.RespawnLocation, stage saving, tag-based hazards.
  • A round-based minigame: match state machines, lobby flow, mid-round joins.

Why this order

Each step consumes the last. Coins become shop currency, the shop funds game passes, the obby becomes the minigame map. By step five you have a game with progression, monetization, and a loop; and you have read every line of it, because it appeared in your Explorer and you reviewed it.
